Way To Go Logan

Charter Oak School had an awards day this past week and Logan received three awards- Homework Hero, All Gs in Conduct and Student Achievement Award!!! It made me a little teary eyed to see hie finishing up his first year of school- Only 16 more to go!!!

Sleepless in Peoria

It is 3:45 in the morning, and it has been one of those nights.  Kaitlyn has been up since 1:15 and nothing seems to work to get her back to sleep.  She is quiet for a little bit and then starts talking and then crying.  Obviously, something is bothering her since she is normally a really good sleeper.  So here I am blogging in the wee hours of the morning, in hopes that she ends up going to sleep, so I can get some sleep before Logan wakes up at 7:15 sharp.

Logan's School Day

What a month we have been having.  It has been a long a busy Month of May.  Logan is finishing up his first year in school.  Thursday May 29th is his last full day, and then on Friday, he goes to school for 1 HOUR, yeah, that is right just 1 HOUR.  He will spend more time on the bus than he will at school.  Well, at least he will get a "healthy" breakfast of doughnuts at school for his morning snack.
Speaking of the school district, there is some hope in changing the vote of shortening of the school day for next year.
Back story-  the start of the month, District 150 school board  (Peoria school),voted to shorten the school day by 45 minutes.  This would mean that Logan would go to school from 9:15 to 3:00, as a posed to the current schedule which is 8:45-3:15.  The school board slipped this under all parents with little or no warning about the public forum on this matter. Since hardly no one knew about this, they thought they were home free.  When they brought this to the attention at the forum, it was said that it is to help their budget. By cutting 45 minutes, it would save $600,00.00.  Well, this made a lot of parent VERY UPSET and in turn, the board switched their story to saying that by shortening the day, then the teachers can have uninterrupted planning time, which will better the children's education.  Well, they did end up voting in favor of shortening the day.  Thank goodness to a committee of parents who are meeting with the superintendent and board members and are not going to settle until the board changes their minds.  As of today, I have heard that there is talk of the board meeting again and discussing this in more depth.  Please keep your fingers crossed that they will change their mind, so Logan will get a FULL day of school.
This was upsetting to me.  When Logan started Kindergarten, I thought that 8:45 was way to late to start school.  In Webster City, they start at 8:10.  So when they now want to shorten the day even more, it made Rob and I start thinking about private school.  Unfortunately, we are not rich enough to send him there. (If anyone would like to donate to Logan's elementary fund, send money to our house)  :)  Anyway, we are going to help in anyway we can (i have sent e-mails to the board) and just wait this out and hope that something will change before school starts in August.

Logan's 6 years old!!!

Last week we celebrated my baby's 6th birthday.  He is growing so fast.   He had a great time celebrating his birthday.  We invited the boys from his class and ended up with 7 kindergarten boys running around our house.  Every time the doorbell rang, Logan got even more excited that another friends came to his house.  A half hour into the party all the boys had sweat running down their faces.  We ate pizza and popcorn and played a couple of games.  We had a scavanger hunt where the boys had to find clues to get them to the All Spark (transformers).  They had a blast running through the house.  Logan got A LOT of transformers and Ben 10 toys.  He also used his gift cards to go and buy the Lego Police Department that he has ALWYAS wanted.  I think he favorite present would have to be the Transformer game for his Nintendo DS that Rob gave him.  We have to pry the DS out of his hands because he wants to play it all the time.  He had a GREAT birthday!!!
