Logan's First day of 1st grade

Logan's first day of 1st grade was Great!!!

Logan is ready to start his school year!!!

                      Off he goes to school

I cannot believe that my baby is in 1st grade!!!  Logan went back to school on Tuesday August 26th.  He was pretty nervous, but made it through with flying colors.   This year, instead of taking him to daycare in the morning, he is staying at home until the bus picks him up right outside our front door.  It works out really well since Rob gets home at 7:30 a.m. and the bus does not come until 8:25.  I go to work with Kaitlyn and Rob puts Logan on the bus.  Logan rides on the bus for maybe 5 minutes and then he is at school.  Last year he was on the bus for about 30 min.  The first day we put him on the bus he was very nervous.  He walked very slow to the bus and just had that look of "i'm not sure about this" on his face.  We told him that we were going to met him at school to show him where he is going to line up.   We got there and got to his line and met his teacher, who seemed very nice.  I got teary eyed as the bus drove away from our house and also watching him walk in the building.
That night when we asked him how school was, he said "good, really good!!!  My teacher is really nice, I like her"

Baseball Game!!!

This past summer Logan went to a Peoria Chiefs game with his daycare.  He had so much fun that he wanted to go back.  Last Saturday, we had grandma and grandpa babysit Kaitlyn and Rob, Logan and I went out to eat and went to a chiefs game.  We had great seats, right behind home plate, and Logan ate lots of popcorn and cookies!!!  It was a great night and the three of us had a lot of fun with each other!!!

August Vacation

We had such a nice vacation this past weekend.  Thanks to my mother-in-law Sue, we had the opportunity to go to stay at a cabin on Twin Lakes in Iowa.  Because she works for the Christian Camp at the lake, we got to stay at their wonderful  cabin.  It was wonderful and so relaxing.  We had this 3 bedroom 2 bathroom cabin that had a kitchen with all appliances, a dining room and two living rooms.  We spent the majority of the time at the lake.  We played at the playground, went paddle boating, canoeing, and swimming.  There was a huge slide that slid into the lake that Rob and Logan had fun going down ( yes, I did go down).  Logan was not so sure about going down the slide, but once he sat down on the slide and his hands and feet accidentally slipped and he went down, he thought it was really fun.    This was the first time that Logan swam in a lake and he liked it.  Once again, he was not so sure about going in the lake because it did not have clear water, but he did it and it was hard to get him out when the day was over. We went paddle boating and canoeing which Logan Rob and I really enjoyed.
Now, you are probably thinking what about Kaitlyn?  Well, she had a good time as well.  I was really nervous taking Kaitlyn close to the water ( right Sue)  because she is such a go go girl.  I tried to keep her away, but Kaitlyn was not going to have any of that.  After the crying that could be heard across the lake, we finally brought her down and put her on the paddle boat with us.  She LOVED it.  She had a great time sitting with us and being on the lake.  She liked being in the water, but only her feet and legs.  Once you got the water past her bottom, she started crying.  When Rob and Logan were going down the slide, she tried so hard to squirm out of my arms so she could go down the slide.  Sue and I were laughing and wondering what she would do if we would put her down the slide with Rob,  we pretty much agreed that she would not want to go down again.
The weekend was so nice and relaxing.  It was a vacation that was not on the go all the time, and the cabin felt like home.  Thank you Sue for having us.  Logan is already planning next years vacation.

Well, I made it through my first week with the children all day everyday! ALthough I am having fun with them, I do not think that I would want to be a stay at home mom all the time.  We have had a lot of fun, but my goodness, they make me tired.  I am more tired now than I am when I go to work and run after and teach 20 3-5 year olds.  It was nice to spend some one-on-one time with Logan.  When Kaitlyn was sleeping Logan and I got to do somethings just him and I.  We went swimming, played with his new webkins, ti-dye shirts, which turned out awesome!!!  It was nice to spend that time with him and I think he really like spending time with me too!!!  I look forward to our last week together, but I am going to need a lot more sleep.
A little update on the story of the school district shortening the school days.  Peoria District 150 school has voted on shortening ONLY 15 Wednesdays for the school year.  This is a great victory for the parents.  We went from the district shortening everyday by 90 minutes, to only 15 Wednesday for the year.  Keep in mind that 6 of those 15 days were already in the calendar, so they are only adding 9 more days instead of the countless amount of days from the original plan.  THis just shows that the school board tried to slid something under the parents and that the parents are NOT going to let the school board take away our children's education.  This also shows that things can be changed even when you think they cannot.  It was the drive and determination of the parents that changed the boards vote on this situation.  GO DISTRICT 150 PARENTS!!!

Calling ALL Moms

This is the questions I am sure almost all moms have asked, but really did not get a good answer.  How do you know you are not messing up your children?  Logan is 6 years old going on 15.  We are having problmes with him and his smarting off.  DOes anyone have any suggestions as to how to handle these problems?  Rob and I ask ourselves quite often, "are we doing something wrong"?  "What can we do to correct this behavior"?  Besides corporal punishment (which we have not even come close to doing) we have tried everything.  I am not saying that Logan is this behavior problem child, believe me, I have seen some dussies in my days, and Logan is NOTHING like them,  but there are times, and they seem to becoming more frequent, that we are at our wits end, with no answers in sight.
Logan is a great child, and we are blessed to have him.  He can be the sweetest boy, friend, son, brother anyone could ask for, but we need help with those days that are driving us crazy.  PLEASE HELP US...
